PCN Named Best Pharmaceutical Practice Regulator 2026 by MEA Markets
The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria has been named “Best Pharmaceutical Practice Regulator 2026 – Nigeria” in the African Excellence Awards 2026 by MEA Markets, recognising the Council’s role in regulating pharmacy practice nationwide.
The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) has been named “Best Pharmaceutical Practice Regulator 2026 – Nigeria” under the African Excellence Awards 2026 organised by MEA Markets, a Middle East and Africa-focused business publication.
MEA Markets’ official winners directory lists PCN among the 2026 award recipients and identifies the Council as the winner of the pharmaceutical practice regulator category for Nigeria.
The recognition comes as PCN continues to exercise its statutory responsibilities under the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (Establishment) Act 2022, which empowers the Council to regulate the standard of pharmacy practice and pharmaceutical business in Nigeria.
Under the Act, PCN is responsible for functions including setting standards for pharmacy education and training, maintaining registers of professionals, inspecting and licensing pharmaceutical premises, and regulating pharmacy practice and professional conduct.
What the recognition means
The award provides external recognition of PCN’s regulatory role at a time when pharmaceutical regulation is increasingly focused on professional standards, compliance, quality assurance and patient safety.
PCN describes itself as the federal agency responsible for regulating pharmacy education, training and practice in Nigeria, including the activities of pharmacy technicians and Patent and Proprietary Medicines Vendors (PPMVs).
Its regulatory functions include the registration and licensing of pharmacists and pharmaceutical premises, inspection and monitoring, development of practice standards and continuing professional development.
The Council’s Inspection, Monitoring and Quality Assurance Department, for example, coordinates inspections of pharmaceutical premises across manufacturing, importation, distribution, wholesale, retail and hospital pharmacy settings to assess compliance with established standards.
The recognition therefore comes against a broad regulatory mandate that directly affects pharmacy professionals, pharmaceutical businesses and the public.
PCN celebrates recognition
In a statement announcing the award, PCN described the recognition as an acknowledgement of its efforts to strengthen pharmaceutical practice and regulation in Nigeria.
The Council also credited its Registry, management and staff, as well as members of the wider pharmacy community and other stakeholders, for their contributions to the advancement of pharmaceutical practice.
PCN said the recognition would reinforce its commitment to regulatory excellence, professionalism, innovation and effective oversight.
Recognition of ongoing regulatory work
The recognition comes against a period of continued regulatory activity by PCN, including the inspection and licensing of pharmaceutical premises, registration and regulation of pharmacy professionals, enforcement of regulatory standards, strengthening of pharmaceutical practice and engagement with stakeholders across the sector.
The Council has also continued to pursue initiatives aimed at improving regulatory processes and strengthening compliance within Nigeria’s pharmaceutical supply chain and practice environment.
For pharmacists, pharmaceutical businesses and other stakeholders, these activities are central to maintaining professional standards and ensuring that medicines and pharmaceutical services are provided within an appropriate regulatory framework.
The African Excellence Awards recognition therefore adds another dimension to PCN’s ongoing work, highlighting its regulatory role beyond Nigeria and acknowledging the efforts of the Council, its staff and stakeholders in advancing pharmaceutical practice.
As PCN continues to implement its mandate, the focus will remain on translating regulatory standards into effective oversight, improved compliance and safer, quality pharmaceutical services for Nigerians.
