The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) has increased the admission quota for Novena University's Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) programme to 120 students following a successful verification exercise that confirmed the institution meets the required standards for expanded pharmacy education and training.
The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) has approved an increase in the admission quota for the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) programme at Novena University, Ogume, Delta State, raising the institution's annual intake to 120 students.
The approval followed a comprehensive verification and monitoring exercise conducted by the Council, which assessed the university's Faculty of Pharmacy. According to the PCN, the faculty met the regulatory requirements for expanding its student capacity after demonstrating significant improvements in infrastructure, academic facilities and human resources.
In an approval letter signed by the Registrar of the Council, Pharm. Ibrahim B. Ahmed, the PCN stated that the decision was based on a positive assessment of the faculty's physical facilities, modern laboratories, lecture halls, academic resources and availability of qualified personnel to support the increased enrolment.
The Council noted that the expanded admission quota aligns with the Federal Government's drive to strengthen the training of healthcare professionals and address the country's growing healthcare workforce needs.
The increased quota is expected to create additional opportunities for qualified candidates seeking admission into the Pharm.D programme while contributing to the production of more pharmacists to support Nigeria's healthcare system.
Reacting to the development, the Vice-Chancellor of Novena University, Professor Godwin Nduka, described the approval as another significant milestone for the institution.
He thanked the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria for its confidence in the university and reaffirmed the institution's commitment to maintaining high academic standards through continuous investment in infrastructure, research, teaching and professional training.
Professor Nduka added that Novena University would continue to develop innovative academic programmes and world-class facilities aimed at producing competent and globally competitive healthcare professionals.
As the first private university in Delta State, Novena University offers fully accredited undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Nursing, Optometry, Medical Laboratory Science, Public Health, Law, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Accounting, Business Administration, Mass Communication, Political Science, Intelligence and Security Studies, among other disciplines.
